Hello! I am glad you found your way to my site. And thank you for taking the time to look!
The question I'm always asked is: "How long have you been painting?" The simple answer ifrom when I was about 14. The more complicated but important answer has to do with what was deep inside way before then. My desire to become an artist came first from my love of faces when I was really young. So I was drawing and painting in my mind as far back as I can remember before I could walk. You may have never picked up a brush yet either, but that desire is where it begins. Like most of us, opportunities weren't there to to actually practice or study but when I was nine my little brother won a "Jon Gnagy Art Set" in a contest while I was home recovering from the mumps. He gave it to me. He felt sorry for me because I was stuck in bed for two weeks. I suppose he really wasn't interested in using it himself, but to me it was the golden key to everything I thought I really wanted or needed! It came with a lesson book and I finished every single one of the lessons during my confinement. I still have that lesson book. I still think of those simple lessons and their truth. A little later an uncle gave me a some left over paint from a paint-by-numbers kit and a set of pastels. I set up my own studio in my bedroom. After that it was on to college to become an art teacher, and in the summers taking that pastel set on the road, setting up portrait booths in malls and festivals. Eventually I was blessed to be able to attend many workshops to improve and study with modern-day masters. The biggest influence on my painting as an adult were the workshops at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia, PA. I was told "Incamminati" means "those to continue to grow." I take that to heart and am still always looking for ways to become my best self. I've expanded and grown from portraiture to wanting to paint everything. I love form, the interplay of light and shadow, gesture, great design...and live to interpret our wonderful reality with paint. I love it all - from mundane things, like avocados or shoes, to the magnificence of people, fleeting expressions, exquisite and unique faces, as well as time-worn interesting places, wondrous skies, and of course the marvelous perfection of the human body - the world lavishes us unconditionally. I am happiest while painting. My life is both very blessed and unfinished as there is always something new which inspires and challenges.
