Do you accept commissions? Yes! I do two types of portrait work:

1) I love to do what I call a "Painted Sketch", which can be anywhere in size from 14x11 or larger, and is done completely from life, NOT from a photograph. The sitter must be present for most of the process. These take anywhere from 50 minutes to 2 hours, or longer, if a larger size/full figure is preferred. Though loose and fresh a "painted sketch" is a framable oil portrait. Known also as "Alla Prima" meaning wet-into wet paint, the result is a more Plein-air feel. Pricing for a Painted Sketch starts at $200.
2) I also enjoy creating more involved studio paintings. Though painting from life is my
preference, sometimes circumstances do not allow for all, or some of the work to be completed during live sittings. Often a photograph or photographs are going to be used as references. I shoot my own reference photos whenever possible. I will make sketches and color notes from life whenever possible as well. As an artist, it is my belief that a painting transcends and captures in a different way than the camera. Limiting myself and the outcome of the process to an exact duplication of a photo would therefore be counterproductive. It is with this reasoning that my policy is to not necessarily share reference photos with the client, or anyone, during the process or at the completion of a painting. My strategy is only because of my intent to give my client the best possible outcome. Reference photos, sketches and color notes remain in my possession unless other arrangements are made. Pricing for a "studio portrait" starts at $2800., depending on size, how much of the figure is depicted, and the background.

A "portrait" doesn't have to be a face. I am open to commissions of any type - houses, boats, or pets. Just ask. An assemblage of objects in a still life painting that symbolize a person or event can also be a creative and lasting legacy.
